Brig. General (Ret.) Dr. S. Pete Worden to Address 2024 Int’l Mars Society Convention

The Mars Society is excited to announce that Brig. General (Ret.) Dr. S. Pete Worden will give an address about “Life in the Universe and Private Sector Space Science Initiatives” during the 27th Annual International Mars Society Convention, held in August at the University of Washington (Seattle).

Dr. Worden currently serves as Chairman of the Breakthrough Prize Foundation and as Executive Director of the foundation’s “Breakthrough Initiatives,” a groundbreaking program launched in 2015 with the aim of searching for extraterrestrial intelligence over a decade-long period.

Formerly, Dr. Worden held the position of Director at NASA’s Ames Research Center until his retirement in March 2015. His distinguished career also includes various roles within the United States Air Force and tenure as a research professor of astronomy at the University of Arizona.

With over 150 scientific papers to his name, Dr. Worden is a respected authority in the field. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Michigan, followed by a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Arizona.
