In light of recent achievements in space and our continued efforts as a species to get humans on to the surface of the Red Planet, the Mars Society is thrilled to release an inspiring new song, ‘Halfway to Mars‘, that celebrates the work of the pioneers of Mars and hopes to inspire all of us to strive even harder.
The idea for the song came about three months into the COVID-19 lockdown, when opera singer Oscar Castellino, in a chat with musician Linda Shanson in London, realized that they could be halfway to Mars if their home that they were confined to was an actual spaceship. The journey to Mars in terms of duration didn’t seem so difficult after all!

The lyrics go:
Innovation, Expedition,
This is what we breathe,
On a mission, past ignition
Meteoric speed!
Sailing through the distant ether,
Like a shooting star,
Breaking limits,
Lifting spirits,
This is who we are!
Living a life among the stars
and finding what life is all about,
Spreading the wonders of the earth far out.
We are Halfway to Mars (3)
and going on …
Put to test every skill,
Past the highest hill.
We are Halfway to Mars and going on …
Boca Chica to Africa,
All of earthly kind.
Indiana to India,
With a goal in mind.
On a quest to give the best to
Generations on …
Breaking limits,
Lifting spirits,
This is why we’re born!
Living a life among the stars
and finding what life is all about,
Spreading the wonders of the earth far out.
We are Halfway to Mars (3)
and going on …
Put to test every skill,
Past the highest hill.
We are Halfway to Mars (3)
and going on … !
Mr. Castellino says he wrote this song inspired by space pioneers like Elon Musk and Robert Zubrin.
