Martian Weather Between 18 August 2008 and 24 August 2008:

The MARCI acquires a global view of the red planet and its weather patterns every day. Please click and play the Quicktime movie (.mov file) to see how the weather on Mars changed during this time.

Typical northern summer weather continued to be seen this past week on Mars. Water ice clouds converged on the equatorial regions, becoming especially concentrated over the major shield volcanoes, Valles Marineris, Syrtis Major, and to the west of Argyre over Aonia and Sirenum. Localized dust activity occurred in the southern mid-latitudes and transiently at the north polar cap. This did not affect the Phoenix lander, however, as it continued to experience storm-free weather. Afternoon skies were somewhat cloudy at the MER landing sites (Gusev Crater and Meridiani Planum), but no storms occurred.
